Zurich Christmas markets with kids: the family guide for 2026
Zurich Christmas markets with kids: the family guide for 2026
From Christmas carousels to festive activities here’s where to take the kids for a little Christmas magic in Zurich this year.

Zurich City Christmas markets
Polarzauber at Zurich Main Station
Formerly Christkindlimarkt
| DatesNovember 19–December 24, 2026 | SettingIndoors | EntryFree | StrollerYes, although it gets busy |
| Best forRainy days, toddlers and preschoolers, Christmas treats, and train-loving kids | |||
The Christmas market inside Zurich’s main station is one of the easiest options with kids, especially when the weather isn’t cooperating.
The main hall is filled with more than 100 market stalls, a huge Lindt Christmas tree, and plenty of food options. One of the highlights for children is the miniature winter world with a teddy bear train beneath the tree.
There’s also a children’s program throughout Advent, with activities and entertainment on selected days. It’s an easy market to visit for an hour or combine with another activity in the city.
Good to know: The market opens at 11 am, so visiting around lunchtime on a weekday is a good option if you want to avoid the busiest evening crowds. Check the children’s program before visiting, as activities vary by date.

Zürcher Weihnachtsallee, Europaallee
| DatesNovember 19–December 23, 2026 | SettingOutdoors | EntryFree | StrollerYes |
| Best forFood, younger children, and a relaxed Christmas outing | |||
If you’re visiting a Christmas market mainly for the food, Europaallee is one of my favorites.
There’s a great selection of food stalls with dishes from around the world, so it’s an especially good option when everyone wants something different. There’s also a small children’s play area, which makes it easier to enjoy a visit with younger kids.
Located just a few minutes from Zurich HB, it’s convenient for a spontaneous visit after school or on the weekend.
You’ll also find Christmas gifts, festive drinks, and a fondue chalet.
Good to know: This is a particularly good market to visit around lunchtime. The play area is small, so it’s better for a short stop than an afternoon of entertainment.

Bellevue Noël, Sechseläutenplatz
New for 2026
| DatesNovember 19–December 23, 2026 | SettingOutdoors | EntryFree | StrollerYes, and there’s an elevator up to the Christmas wreath |
| Best forFamilies, Christmas food, and discovering Zurich’s newest Christmas market | |||
There’s something new at Sechseläutenplatz this Christmas.
Bellevue Noël replaces the former Wienachtsdorf with a completely new concept. The market will feature more than 100 market and food stalls, plus a large fondue chalet on the upper floor.
The main attraction is a giant wooden Christmas wreath, 40 meters wide, that visitors can walk around about five meters above the market. It promises to be an interesting new addition to Zurich’s Christmas celebrations.
With its location beside the Opera House and just a short walk from Lake Zurich, it’s easy to combine with a family day out in the city.
Good to know: Walking on the Christmas wreath is free, but you’ll need a ticket, which you can book online or at the market. As this is the market’s first year, we’ll update this guide once we’ve visited and can share our experience.

Dörfli Christmas Market, Niederdorf
| DatesNovember 19–December 23, 2026 | SettingOutdoors | EntryFree | StrollerPossible, but the Old Town’s cobblestones and narrow streets can be challenging |
| Best forIce skating, preschoolers, and a traditional Christmas market | |||
Zurich’s oldest Christmas market winds through the narrow streets of Niederdorf, with stalls selling gifts, crafts, and Christmas treats.
For families, the main attraction is the little ice rink at Rosenhof, where children can skate for free. It’s an easy way to introduce younger children to ice skating without committing to a full afternoon at a larger rink.
The market stretches through the Old Town, so there’s plenty to explore afterward, including cafés and places to stop for something warm.
Good to know: Skating is free for kids, but there is a small fee for skate rental. The market is spread across several streets, so I’d head directly to Rosenhof if you’re visiting mainly for the children’s activities.

Münsterhof Christmas Market
| DatesNovember 19–December 24, 2026 | SettingOutdoors | EntryFree | StrollerYes |
| Best forChristmas shopping, a quieter market experience, and occasional children’s workshops | |||
The Christmas market at Münsterhof is a great option if you’re looking for something a little more relaxed than the larger markets.
Surrounded by historic buildings and the Fraumünster church, it focuses on local businesses, Zurich-made products, and thoughtful Christmas gifts.
There’s also a cultural program with concerts, readings, and workshops for adults and children.
While it isn’t a market packed with children’s rides, it’s a good choice for a shorter family visit, especially if you’re combining it with Christmas shopping in the city center.
Good to know: Check the cultural program before visiting. The children’s workshops are what make this market particularly interesting for families, but they don’t run continuously.

Christmas experiences worth visiting with kids
The Singing Christmas Tree, Werdmühleplatz
| DatesNovember 19–December 23, 2026 | SettingOutdoors | EntryFree | StrollerYes, although space is limited during performances |
| Best forChristmas music, younger children, and a short festive outing | |||
This is one of Zurich’s most recognizable Christmas traditions.
At Werdmühleplatz, just off Bahnhofstrasse, choirs perform Christmas songs from a stage shaped like a giant Christmas tree.
The market itself is relatively small, with food stalls and Christmas treats, but the singing is what makes it special.
It’s a perfect stop with children, especially if they enjoy Christmas music. You don’t need to plan a whole afternoon around it, making it easy to combine with a walk along Bahnhofstrasse or another market nearby.
Good to know: Choirs perform at scheduled times, so check the performance timetable before visiting. If you’re going with young children, arriving shortly before a performance makes more sense than waiting around.

These aren’t traditional Christmas markets, but they’re some of our favorite ways to enjoy the Christmas season in Zurich.
Illuminarium, Landesmuseum
| DatesNovember 5–December 30, 2026 (closed December 24–25) | SettingOutdoors | EntryFree festival area; paid light shows | StrollerAccessible |
| Best forA special Christmas outing, light shows, and children of all ages | |||
Illuminarium is one of my favorite Christmas experiences in Zurich, and I really recommend booking one of the shows.
The courtyard of the Landesmuseum is transformed with beautiful lights, food stalls, and immersive projections that cover the museum walls.
It’s worth visiting just to enjoy the atmosphere, but the shows are what make it especially memorable.
For 2026, there are two family-friendly Yuki shows: Yuki’s Arctic Christmas and Yuki’s Pixel Zoo Jungle.
There’s also a free area where you can enjoy the lights and get something to eat or drink without buying a show ticket.
Good to know: Children aged five and under can attend the shows for free. The festival opens earlier on Sundays, which can be a better option for younger children who don’t want a late evening.

Winterzauber, Uetliberg
| DatesNovember 6, 2026–January 31, 2027; Christmas market on selected weekends, November 7–December 20; candle-making November 7, 2026–January 3, 2027 | SettingOutdoors, with indoor candle-making | Entry Free to explore; activities cost extra | StrollerNot my first choice, especially in snow |
| Best forSnowy days, candle-making, and a family winter outing | |||
If there’s snow on Uetliberg, this is one of my favorite places for a Christmas outing.
Winterzauber is a great excuse to head up the mountain, enjoy the winter scenery, and spend some time outdoors.
One of the highlights for children is candle-making at UTO KULM. Kids can make and decorate their own candles, which is such a nice Advent activity and something they can take home afterward.
There’s also a small Christmas market on selected weekends, with handmade products and crafts.
Good to know: Candle-making runs on weekends and holidays and costs CHF 5.50 per 100 grams, including the wick. Reserving a 45-minute time slot is recommended. I’d save this one for a snowy day if possible and combine it with a walk and something warm to drink.

Winterzauber IM VIADUKT, Zürich West
| DatesNovember 19–December 23, 2026 | SettingOutdoors, with an indoor market hall | EntryFree | StrollerGenerally suitable; mostly level pedestrian areas |
| Best forYounger children, a carousel, food, and Christmas shopping | |||
If you’re looking for a Christmas outing away from the busy city-center markets, Winterzauber at IM VIADUKT is a great option.
The area beneath Zurich’s railway arches gets a festive makeover, with a children’s carousel in front of the Markthalle and a seasonal program in the chalet outside.
There’s plenty for parents to enjoy, too. You’ll find fondue gondolas, a raclette yurt, and the usual selection of shops and food stalls inside the Viadukt arches. It’s a nice place to combine a little Christmas shopping with something to eat while the kids enjoy a carousel ride.
Good to know: Samichlaus visits under the arches on Sunday, December 6. The shops also open on three Sundays: November 29, December 6, and December 20.
